DDM (Digital Diagnostics Monitoring) provides real-time monitoring of optical transceiver parameters, enabling proactive network management and troubleshooting.What is DDM?Digital Diagnostics Monitoring (DDM), also called Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM), is a standardized feature defined by SFF-8472 that allows optical transceivers (SFP, SFP+, QSFP, etc.) to report real-time operational data to the host system, such as a switch or router . DDM transforms a passive transceiver into an intelligent component, providing visibility into link health and enabling predictive maintenance .Key Parameters Monitored by DDMDDM exposes several critical parameters:Transceiver Temperature (°C): Monitors the internal temperature of the module. Deviations from the expected range may indicate cooling issues or power problems, and sustained over-temperature can shorten laser life .Supply Voltage (V or mV): Shows the module's internal power rail, typically around 3.3 V. Voltage drops or fluctuations can cause intermittent behavior or EEPROM read errors .Laser Bias Current (µA/mA): The DC current driving the laser diode. A sudden increase at constant TX power may indicate a failing laser, while very low bias can suggest a dead or damaged laser .Transmit Optical Power (TX, dBm): The optical power emitted by the module. Low TX may indicate a failing laser or dirty connector, while excessively high TX can point to calibration issues .Receive Optical Power (RX, dBm): The optical power received by the module.
